2020 EdCon Program Director – Now Hiring!
The American Circus Educators Conference (EdCon) will take place from November 5-8, 2020, at Sky Candy in Austin, Texas. Hundreds of circus educators from across the country gather for four days of workshops, training, networking, and discussion.
The EdCon team is a collaborative group of circus practitioners who care deeply about circus in the United States. The Program Director is instrumental in achieving EdCon’s goals of providing opportunity for professional development and fostering a circus-educator community. Other opportunities for employment at the 2020 EdCon will be announced by April, 2020.

The Program Director is responsible for successful planning and execution of the workshops that take place at the conference. They do all outreach, vetting, curating, and scheduling related to the 2020 conference workshop schedule in consultation with the Event Director. Their work involves managing application forms, communication with all applicants, managing equipment distribution, and deciding what workshops are offered when and where during the event. They are also involved in the larger visioning of the event: choosing relevant and timely themes for workshops, and giving input on the larger structure of the conference. The ideal candidate is highly organized, a great problem solver, has knowledge of circus safety and equipment, and has an understanding of the who’s who in circus education in the US, as well as an interest in advancing circus education in the US.
The Program Director will work with the AYCO Event Director to ensure that their portion of the event is executed to completion and attendee satisfaction. They are expected to be in communication with the Event Director, with an anticipated 50-60 hours work/phone calls at a distance before the event to prepare for on site work. Availability for a site visit to the venue (housing and travel paid for) is a plus.
On site, the Program Director is in a leadership role and is responsible for the execution of their task. They will be expected to be on site from 8am through the end of day. They will be responsible for ensuring that their task is completed, liaising and delegating to other conference staff and volunteers, and fielding questions from attendees.
Requirements
The Program Director will be expected to attend the event and arrive in Austin by 12pm on 11/5 and stay through 6pm on 11/8.
The Program Director should have experience working with others and managing projects as well as strong connections and networks in the US circus education sector.
